My friend and I arrived tired after a long journey from the U.S., ahead of our week-long walk on the Hadrian's Wall Path.The staff were welcoming, friendly and attentive.We enjoyed the real ales, our dinner, the room (though bar patrons outside our window were noisy till quite late), and the breakfast next morning.We also enjoyed speaking with others who had just completed the Hadrian's Wall Path.In addition, the Dorset Arms is not far from the Wallsend metro station and the start of the HWP, so we appreciated that convenience.

The Dorset arms is a good standard hotel,It is clean, comfortable, and good value. Breakfast is good quality and plentifull, the hosts are very nice and will do their best to help if you have a problem. We have stayed twice now and used the evening dinning service as well and both times have been good.

We spent four nights at the Dorset Arms, the room was very comfortable and clean with a well decorated en-suite. Stan the proprietor was very friendly and helpful, and the food was very enjoyable. The customers in the bar where very nice and made you feel welcome. Next time we go to Newcastle we would not hesitate to stay there again.

I was working in Newcastle, so looked for somewhere within suitable travelling time; the Dorset Arms met that need.On arrival, I was met by the hotelier/landlord, Stan, who could not have been nicer.Once shown the room, which was cold, he offered a space heater whilst the room warmed up without being asked.The room was clean and provided all you would need.The bar was, a 'locals' bar but they happily welcomed me into conversations.Food was available in the hotel and was excellent value for money.Stan owns the place and makes you feel welcome, he even remembered what I was drinking when I came in the second night.The hotel prices are excellent for what you get.

I stayed at the Dorset Arms for one night and I will certainly stay there again! The owner was friendly and very welcoming , the food was amazing , I had lunch and breakfast. It is not far into the city centre by metro and the price was spot on!The rooms were spotless and had everything you need , hairdryer,tea and coffee!

Dorset Arms is a great location for access to Segedunum and nearby Hadrian's Wall sites like Corbridge Roman Town. The room is nicely fitted, clean and modern. Room could be brighter with burnt bulbs replaced. Evening Dining room fare and Continental breakfest were both tasty. Parking was very convenient though weekends and early evening spaces can be spotty. Good value for money but expect some noise from the pub and function room downstairs til bedtime.

Can't praise this hotel enough really..for what you pay it's excellent. Upon arrival we were shown our room which was way above some far more expensive hotels. Shower let it down slightly but that's because I'm not a lover of electric showers but that's being picky. Overall it gets top marks.

We didn’t have much time in the hotel as we had a busy weekend but the time we did spend there we received great service! The gent behind the bar(sorry rubbish with names) was very friendly and attentive. The hotel was clean and had all commodities avliable and extra on request without a problem, thank you!

Very friendly and helpful staff and great with my son.Has lots of potential to be a lovely venue with a bit of tlc and has lots of space to enjoy drinks in sun , love the dove house!

I was pleasantly surprised by the warmth of both the staff and the patrons of this hotel; beautiful and clean lovely beds and very well maintained (although too soft a mattress for me) however I must state that I love a hard bed always have.I looked for dust and I am really saddened to say...I COULD NOT FIND ANY!I have stayed at the Burj Al Arab at a cost of £5k per night and found dirt.To be told "Don't be a stranger" gave me an amazing feeling of genuine warmth and kindness..I will definitely return sometime later this year!Diolch yn Fawr

We reached the Dorset Arms after cycling the length of Hadrian's Wall. Simon who was there to greet us made sure our bikes were safely locked away and secure so we could just relax after our exhausting ride.The pizza restaurant was delicious and the locals in the bar were very friendly making us all feel welcome.The room was very comfortable and the area very quiet making sleeping easy.

My friends and I stayed at the Dorset Arms hotel for two nights for a friends wedding reception. The staff are welcoming and friendly. The rooms are comfortable and spacious. We had a full English breakfast which was cooked as we had asked. There is ample parking and lovely gardens with plenty of seating. It is within walking distance of Walsend high street for shopping and there are buses close by should you wish to go into Newcastle town centre.I would definitely recommend this hotel.

We travelled to The Dorset Arms to spend the night celebrating a family birthday. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and found the room very clean with every amenity provided. The bathroom could do with a brighter lightbulb or replace the one above the mirror (us girls need to see to apply make up). The bed was very comfy and I was particularly pleased to see black out blinds at the windows. Sadly didn't make breakfast as 8am was a little early after a late night.Would definitely stay again on our next visit up North!

This is our second stay at Dorset arms, we were welcomed yet again with warm friendly smiles from the owner Stan and Simon, both made sure we had everything we needed to make our stay an enjoyable one, as we were on our first visit. Our room was very clean and nicely decorated. We have had lunch and dinner in Cinatra's restaurant, the menu has lots to choose from, our meals were delicious and very well priced, breakfast was very good. will definitely book again.

Stayed for 1 noght with our dog. We were made to feel very welcome by all the staff and locals who loved and made a great fuss of our giant schnauser. I mile from the metro for a 10 minute ride into Newcastle which is a vibrant and friendly city. I have fallen for Geordie land and Geordie people. Surrounding coastline was lovely as well.

Made to feel very welcome and was very happy with our room. Room clean and accessories added a lovely touch to the room.Breakfast was lovely and again made to feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble for them. I have to say it was lovely to stay at a place where they do not overprice breakfast like some places, really reasonable prices. We stayed at the Dorset Arms for a total of 5 nights with our two dogs. The proprietor Stan the man and his staff where just great, friendly and made us feel very comfortable. Having two dogs we could not use the restaurant for breakfast, not a problem they set up a table for us in the bar area. Our room no.1 was large with an equally large wardrobe. The bathroom I cannot fault also very large with all the neccasary toiletries .The gardens are top notch great place to relax and have beer. I've stayed at a few B&B's in my time but this beat the lot. Add that northern hospitality to a reasonably priced accommodation what more could you ask for.

A group of us stayed prior to starting to walk the wall.It was a little further from the metro than expected, and the barintimidatingly busy, but the food was excellent and the hosts very helpful.

This is the 3rd time we have stayed at the Dorset Arms. My son and family live nearby in Wallsend but don't have room to put us up and we love the welcome and hospitality at the Dorset Arms. The gardens are delightful with beautiful baskets and coloutful planters everywhere. The rooms are clean and adequate for a night or two or even longer. With nicely appointed bathroom and comfortable beds as well as flat screen tv and tea & coffee making facilities it is spot on. Also large wardrobes are great with plenty of storage space. The bar is friendly and prices are reasonable. I had the continental breakfast which is included and my husband had a very nice bacon sandwich. Stan the manager is a lovely man and always welcomes us back. I would definately recommend a stay at the Dorset Arms.

This is a comfortable hotel in a nice quiet neighborhood setting.Lovely grounds all created by Stan, the owner.We were very happy with our room, the friendly pub, and the excellent food in the restaurant.We stayed two nights and received many suggestions from the owner regarding places to see.We took his advice and are having a wonderful time.

A quiet (apart from Sunday night Karaoke) and pleasant place, with friendly helpful staff, a decent breakfast and excellent rooms.Enjoyed my 4 day stay, and when I return, I will come back here.

Stayed here for the month of March with wife to visit in-laws. Stan and his staff goes out of their way to make your stay great. Fantastic hospitality, friendly locals and staff and incredible food at Cinatra's. Have stayed there before and will again due to all of the above. Centrally located to public transport to Newcastle and surrounding towns.

We found everyone friendly and helpful, and enjoyed chatting in the bar in spite of the fact that the juke-box was painfully loud (could this be the reason Vinnie is stressed and pulling out her feathers?!) Our room (room 2) was also noisy, from chatter in the bar below and from a loud tv in the room next door. The bed under the window had mattress springs uncomfortably near the surface, but as I'm used to sleeping with discomfort (arthritis) I still slept well! It was great that our dog could be in the room with us and was made welcome in the bar. The dining room and the breakfast were lovely. We hope to be back at the end of March.

We stayed at the Dorset Arms for 1 x night when attending an interview for University.We arrived fairly late but received a friendly welcome.We needed assistance with a couple of things from both the member of staff on duty and later from Stan, the owner, following an issue with the bathoom door at 10.00 at night, the issue was sorted without question and Stan couldn't have been more helpful.Overall the rooms were comfortable and fine for what we required.A very accommodating owner, many thanks.

The pubs description of itself is spot on. The rooms aren't spacious but very clean and comfortable with feather pillows. The food is excellent value for money. Well located just off the Coast Road. All the local staff are delightful.

stayed one night before walking Hadrian's wall. Staff lovely, ran out of strawberries for my eton mess so was given a delicious lemon posset free.The room was clean and comfortable and Stan the boss was great nothing too much trouble we will return.

We booked an overnight stay to attend a funeral. To be honest we chose the Dorset because it was convenient for the church.We travelled up early and needed to changebefore heading for the church. So around 10am we were given access to the room which was really nice with a large bathroom and comfortable beds.Later we enjoyed a drink in the bar before bed.Breakfast was really good, the manager and staff were helpful and friendly and we will stay here again for sure!

A lovely pub with good accommodation. Comfortable rooms and lovely, great value food. Stan was really welcoming and knowledgeable offering advice and help for the rest of our trip. Highly recommend this as a place to stay. Very close to the end of Hadrian's wall walk.

Stayed 6 nights, visiting my daughter in the area. From my arrival to departure the hotel exceeded all bounds in hospitality, from Stan the proprieter to the dogs in the bar. we were very pleased with our stay at The Dorset arms. we were taken to our room by a very pleasant member of staff. the room was very light and airy. the bedding was of good quality and spotless as was the on suite facilities.next morning we enjoyed a superb breakfast of cereal fruit juice bacon sausage egg tomatoes and black pudding with as much toast as you wanted. we would definitely stay there again when in the area.

The strengths of the hotel are the hospitality and politeness of staff. My room was absolutely spot on, quite spacious and cosy. Enjoyed that there was a pub downstairs and food takeouts nearby.

Doing my offshore training at Mearsk which is 2 miles from the Dorset so cheap taxi. Also a couple miles is silverlink which has cinema and food outlets. Staff were great breakfast was sharp on time and had a good few pints with the friendly locals. Planning on coming back!Highly recommend!!

Proprieter was good to accomodate our late arrival of just after midnight. Room was o.k. Good size bathroom,but little or no space for hanging clothes. Breakfast was quite good & as it was included in the price made it all good value for budget accomodation.

Great staff service from everyone thstb i met.Room clean and an iron provided when I asked for the use of one.Good value for money and would recommend to anyone wanting B&B in Newcastle area.

Very friendly and welcoming staff. Room clean and tidy, albeit slightly cold in the bathroom.Excellent shower facilities. Disappointed to find the restaurant was only open for Sunday lunch. Enjoyed our stay.

Great place to stay at. Friendly welcome and a great atmosphere. The food was pretty good and it was a bonus having a pub attached to the hotel. I would highly recomend staying here.

The Dorset Arms was very hospitable and friendly, they get a good crown in the bar.It felt very safe, the food was good and access was easy, I would certainly stay there again.

We stayed at the Dorset Arms Hotel after finishing walking Hadrian's Wall. The friendliness and welcome by Lauren was fantastic, nothing was a bother to her, and she really made us feel relaxed and at home. She was running the bar by herself that night, yet still found time to find us towels when there were none left in the room, cook us dinner, and look after us at the bar - as well as looking after the busy and thirsty Saturday night patrons, and the band members. There was also no pressure to be out early the next morning which was great after a long week of walking, and despite arriving late to breakfast we still got a bacon sandwich and were allowed to sleep in until we needed to leave at midday!There was a mix-up with the rooms and we ended up in a twin instead of a double room, and the shower door in room 2 needs to be fixed properly so it stays on its hinges, but otherwise the room was comfortable and had everything we needed.

All those that we spoke to where friendly and helpful. The only issue we had was that it could have been a little bit cleaner and that room 7 should only be for Heavy Sleepers! We could not sleep due to the fan going off every 15 mins for the industrial fridge. Not only were the staff nice, but so were the locals. Lovely sausages at breakfast too!

We stayed 1 night in the Dorset Arms Hotel before starting our Hadrian’s path walk. Although we arrived late at night, it was no problem to check-in. We can only recommend this hotel.

Great place to stay - great staff, great locals and good whooesome food at very reasonable prices. Rooms very comfortable and great value for money

Stayed here at the end of our Hadrians Wall walk, great place to stay just 10 mins on foot from the end of the National Trail and saves the hassle of sorting out public transport. Stan even let us leave our cars in his car park for the week - we dropped the cars at the start of the week and caught the train to Carlisle.Rooms were clean and tidy and a great breakfast to finish things off.

Very friendly staff, warm and welcoming. I got dropped off at my course centre too which was very helpful especially when the place was new to me. Thank you

Friendly clean establishment, food was excellent and very reasonably priced. Handy stay for Newcastle and the Coast. Will definitely stay here again.

We only stayed one night but the staff were friendly and helpful as was the owner. Nice fry-up for breakfast too! Would gladly stay there again.

Nice hotel, room well decorated and large modern bathroom - extremely friendly staff, easy access to Newcastle using metro, large car park.

Comfortable bed with a very warm welcome.Bedroom recently decorated. Breakfast was minimal for the continental, but a full English was available for no extra cost.

A nice little hotel, spotlessly clean with efficient, friendly staff and excellent value for money. The bar is well patronised by the locals, always a good sign. Food is simple, down to earth and excellent. No problem going back there.

got a free upgrade from single to double bed, lovely room, lovely service and bar girls too
